Dan Lipinski was elected to Congress in 2004, and has consistently been a champion of whole-life issues during all four terms.

In 2009 and 2010, he led the fight against federal funding of abortion in the Health Care Bill.  In 2012 and 2013, he was a very vocal advocate for protection of conscience rights in health care, including supporting the effort to add a conscience protection clause in the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

Lipinski is the cosponsor of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (HR 5939), the Patients First Act (H.R. 877), and the Protect Life Act (HR 5111).

Dan serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Committee on Science and Technology where he sits on two subcommittees, Research and Science Education, and Technology and Innovation.

In 1988, Dan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern University in Evanston, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following Northwestern, Dan went on to earn a Master of Science Degree in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University, and a Doctoral Degree in Political Science from Duke University.

Senator Joe Manchin was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010 having previously served as the Governor of West Virginia, Secretary of State and in the State legislature. He was born in Farmington, West Virginia, a small coal mining town.

Senator Manchin has been a strong supporter of life voting for defunding Planned Parenthood's abortion business and voting for a 20 Week Abortion Ban. He also understands the needs of women for access the affordable health care voting to restore funding for the Affordable Care Act in 2013.

Congressman Collin Peterson has served since 1991, consistently voting pro-life. Republicans view the seat as a pick-up opportunity should Peterson retire. The district tends to vote Republican, but has a handful of elected pro-life Democratic state legislators.

Representative Collin Peterson’s represents Minnesota's largest and most rural district, which includes most of the western area of the state, including Moorhead, Fergus Falls, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Thief River Falls, Willmar, Marshall, and Alexandria.

Jerry Cannon brings experience and name recognition to his second run for Congress, having run in 2014, against a Republican incumbent who is now retiring.

Jerry knows how to run successfully for office as he was elected four times as the Sheriff of Kalkaska County, Michigan.

It is important that Jerry receive early financial support; because he faces a pro-choice primary opponent Lon Johnson, a former state party chair. The state primary is August 2, 2016.

Although Lon Johnson will be able to raise money due to his party connections, Jerry Cannon’s values better represent Michigan’s 1st Congressional District, formerly held by Congressman Bart Stupak.

Jerry's Military and Political Experience

A Vietnam veteran, Jerry served as a Major General in the Michigan Army National Guard and was deployed multiple times around the world, including tours in Iraq. After serving as Marine in Vietnam, Jerry joined the Army National Guard in 1977, retiring in 2012. Using the GI Bill, he earned a degree in Criminal Justice from University of Detroit in 1976.

Upon graduation, Jerry became a police officer, then a detective and eventually became Sheriff of Kalkaska County, Michigan. Jerry won election four times, retiring in 2004 in order to focus on deployments to Cuba and Iraq.

Cannon has served as a member of the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Board of Trustees, chairman of the Garfield Township Parks and Recreation Committee, and a board member of the Northern Michigan Law Enforcement Training Group. Jerry and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Fife Lake, MI. Married for 45 years, Jerry and Liz are the parents of four children, including a son who served two tours in Afghanistan. They have seven grandchildren.
